I picked up this book at Recycled books in Denton Texas. My objective was to find something quirky and random and located by title or cover. Any subject, but at reasonable length for sake of weight, as it would come with me back to England.
It is a neat little collection of short stories that use math to detail the morals. It touches on wasteful spending, pareto’s 80/20 law, vanished poopulations, why more things go wrong than right, and much more. Id say I was able to follow about 85 percent of the book’s calcultions and such – and Im a novice.
What was really nice is that, many of the teachings seem like common sense. But common sense alone can feel more instiinctual, abstract, and difficult to describe or explain. The math in this book fills in those holes in bite-sized and thoughtful ways.
